Prashant Kulkarni

Mr. Prashant is the Behavioral Scientist at Johns Hopkins Centre for Infectious Diseases in India (CIDI) Pune. He has completed a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Physics, a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Anthropology from Pune University, and a Master in Population Sciences (M.P.S.) from the International Institute of Population Sciences (IIPS). He is currently pursuing his doctoral degree in Anthropology from Pune University on the Pneumonia management of under-five children in tribal areas. He has been working in Health Policy Research and Community Based Research for the past 18 years with various not-for-profit organizations. He has handled several research and intervention projects in the field of communicable diseases (Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, Leprosy, and Malaria), sexuality, tribal health, and maternal and child health. He has hands-on experience in qualitative and quantitative research. He has contributed anthropological expertise for Marathi Vishwakosh. He has also been a Reviewer for international journals viz. Global Health Action, The Asian Man International and international conferences viz. Global Symposium on Health Systems Research, International Maternal Newborn Health Conference 2023. He is also a committee member as a Social Scientist at of Institutional Committee for stem cell research (ICSCR) - Symbiosis Institute of Biological Sciences. 
He is currently engaged in the following studies: -

  1. TB Aftermath – The study aims at comparing the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and feasibility of two Active Case Finding (ACF) strategies. 
  2. Bridging the Gaps - Understanding the Barriers and Facilitators in the Tuberculosis Prevention Care Cascade for Optimizing Isoniazid Preventive Therapy Uptake among Adults Living with HIV in India.
  3. Creating a Hope: A Mixed-Method Approach to Identify Most Acceptable Evidence-Based Psycho-Social Intervention to Improve the Retention in Care among Indian Youth Diagnosed with Multi-Drug Resistant TB (MDR-TB).
