RePORT: C-TRIUMPH: Substudy on Understanding of Tuberculosis Infection and Preventive Therapy among Skin-Test Positive Household Contacts of Tuberculosis Cases

This study was conducted from June 2015–May 2018.
It is both relevant and important to gauge awareness of IPT (Isoniazieas an option for preventing TB among those who are tuberculin skin test (TST) positive, given India’s vast TB-infected population pool that are at risk for progressing to active disease, in order to demonstrate demand. We therefore propose to investigate knowledge and understanding of TBI and IPT among skin-test positive household contacts of recently diagnosed pulmonary TB cases.
We hypothesize that knowledge and understanding of TBI among household contacts (HHC) of recently diagnosed TB cases is low, and that information regarding IPT as a proven preventive measure is negligible. Our primary objective is to study knowledge and awareness of issues around TB infection in a high-risk population. The specific aims of this study are to:

Assess knowledge and understanding of TB infection and isoniazid preventive therapy among skin-test positive household contacts of recently diagnosed pulmonary TB cases -
Assess if knowledge and understanding of TB infection and isoniazid preventive therapy differ according to HIV status and other socio-demographic variables -
Identify barriers and possible strategies to increase uptake of IPT among this population
