Amrita Gill

Amrita is a Fogarty Global Health fellow and doctoral candidate at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, New Orleans, United States. As a part of her Fogarty fellowship, she is training at Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Government Medical College (BJMC)-Johns Hopkins University (JHU) clinical research site, Pune, India. Dr. Nishi Suryavanshi (BJMC-JHU CRS), Dr. Nikhil Gupte (BJMC-JHU CRS), Dr. Amita Gupta (JHU) and Dr. Katherine P Theall (Tulane University) are her mentors for her research on "Effect of Neighborhoods and Peer Networks on substance use and violence among adolescents living with and without HIV in India" PN_ALWH STUDY; National Institute of Health-funded mixed-method study.  She is applying her expertise in social epidemiology to analyze part of the data from adolescent mental health study recently completed at the clinical research site in Pune. Amrita is also assisting in the secondary data analysis of the New Orleans Alcohol Study. She is developing mediation and moderated mediation models to understand the impact of early adversity on substance use and mental health outcomes among people living with HIV in New Orleans. Prior to starting her PhD. at Tulane University, she worked as a research consultant in the USAID-funded project ‘Vriddhi’ to improve maternal and child health services in high-priority districts with poor maternal and child health indicators in India.
