Directors' Welcome

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We are excited to launch the Johns Hopkins Center for Infectious Diseases in India (CIDI). Housed in the Division of Infectious Diseases, in the Department of Medicine, at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, CIDI is also a participating Center of Excellence with the Gupta-Klinsky India Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Our Center is established on a foundation of high impact, collaborative infectious disease research and education between Johns Hopkins and partnering Indian institutions that is decades long.

CIDI faculty and staff comprise a bilateral team located in Baltimore, Maryland, with hubs in Chennai, Delhi, Pune, and other locations in India. We focus on improving health outcomes and ensuring equitable access to care among patients in India who have infectious diseases and related conditions. Our approach involves research, programmatic implementation, training and education, community-based outreach, and health-related policy solutions.

Our health focus areas include infectious diseases and comorbidities and conditions that undermine treatment, and our work addresses these factors in patients during all stages of life, with a special emphasis on vulnerable and disenfranchised populations. Our work addresses 11 of the top 13 urgent health challenges identified by the World Health Organization.

We are committed to discovering breakthroughs that prevent, quickly and accurately diagnose, and effectively treat and manage infectious diseases for patients around the world. Johns Hopkins has a proven track record of impact through our Indian partnerships, and the establishment of CIDI is an opportunity for exponential growth.

We are grateful for the support of our research sponsors, our philanthropic partners, and Johns Hopkins University leadership.
