Evaluation of Longitudinal Blood Culture Isolates from BJ Medical College in Pune, India, 2003-2013

Antibiotic resistance is a serious global problem and is caused by multiple factors which have led to difficulty in the management of life-threatening, multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacterial bloodstream infections. The knowledge of antibiotic resistance patterns and availability of appropriate antibiotics to treat these infections in India can prevent the excess morbidity and mortality of these infections. We intend to perform a retrospective review of a laboratory database that details only the date of culture, organism identified, and drug resistance patterns at BJ Medical College in Pune, India. We intend to describe the seasonal variation in blood culture ordering and positivity as well as changing resistance patterns over time.
