Prevalence Survey of Risk Factors for Tuberculosis and Non-communicable Diseases in an HIV-positive Population in Pune, India

This study is conducted under the TREAT Asia Network and funded by amfAR.
The primary objective of this study is to assess the prevalence of risk factors for tuberculosis and non-communicable diseases (NCDs)--coronary artery disease and diabetes mellitus--among HIV-positive patients. The study will also assess the development of NCDs at 12, 24, 48 months after study entry.
Objective 1: To assess the prevalence of risk factors for TB and NCDs in a population of HIV-positive patients
Objective 2: To assess the development of NCDs at 12, 24 and 48 months after baseline assessment.
This study is a prospective longitudinal study and a convenience sample of 500 participants will be recruited for inclusion- 225 HAART-naïve adults, 225 adults (>18 years) on at least one-year of HAART and 50 children <12 years of age: 25 HAART naïve and 25 on HAART. The HAART-naïve subjects will undergo TB risk factor survey and study procedures while HAART-naïve and experienced subjects will undergo NCD risk factor survey and study procedures.
