Identifying Strategies to Optimize Prevention, Diagnosis, and Care of Tuberculosis in Health Care Workers of Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Government Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital, Pune, India

The BJGMC-JHU Fogarty program has identified tuberculosis in health care workers (HCW) as the program's most significant priority. Between June 2011 and December 2013, a total of 47 TB cases were identified among HCW's at the BJGMC Sassoon General Hospital. This study is being conducted by investigators and Fogarty scholars at the Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Government Medical College (BJGMC) in Pune, India. The roles of the Johns Hopkins investigators will be limited to providing technical assistance to on-site faculty and staff, assisting with data analysis (with participant identifiers removed) and preparation of presentations and publications. Investigators at BJGMC propose to study TB infection amongst a cohort of approximately 1,000 HCW's over a 5 year period through annual screening using the tuberculin skin test (TST) and Quantiferon (QFT). They will collect data to investigate risk factors for TB, risk factors for transmission to household contacts, and cost-effectiveness parameters.
